Meet Dr. Dawn Crandall

We're proud to Congratulate Dr. Crandall again on being voted Top Dentist 2019 in Virginia!  She'll be featured in The Washingtonian March 2019 edition.

Working with kids is very rewarding to me, and the main reason I decided to become a pediatric dentist—a decision I made when I was 12 years old and have never regretted. My patients’ energy is contagious, and the privilege of treating children and helping them achieve a healthy dental outlook for the rest of their lives is so important to me. My job as a pediatric dentist is fulfilling, and I can honestly say that I chose the perfect career for myself!

I love a challenge, so turning a nervous patient into a child who loves coming to the dentist, no matter what type of treatment they need, is most rewarding to me. I know that I may have to do things that are uncomfortable for them to endure, but doing so in a very honest and genuinely caring nature with a lot of empathy teaches them that they are capable of undergoing complex dental procedures, even at an early age.

Education and Continuing Education

  •  Siena College-Bachelor of Science Biology
  •  Georgetown University School of Dentistry-Doctor Dental Surgery
  •  University of Maryland Dental School-Pediatric Certificate
  •  Pride School of Dental Management

I have made it my mission to have the most experience in pediatric dentistry and feel I have obtained the very best education available to meet the high standards I set for myself. I like to learn about new topics in dentistry, beneficial changes to traditional techniques, and new products that come out on the market. This way I can offer the widest range of services to my patients and use the best quality materials available for their care. I stay on top of changes in my profession by attending lectures, reading articles, taking CE courses online, and attending classes hosted by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Academy of General Dentistry.

Family and Community

I grew up in Webster, a town just outside of Rochester, NY. Northern Virginia has been my home since 1984. My husband Dr. Jerry Granato and I have been married for 25 years. We have twin daughters and one dog.

We like to travel in our spare time. One of my favorite places to visit is the 1000 Islands in the St. Lawrence River in Ontario, Canada. I also enjoy reading when I am not at work.

I feel it is important to be active in our community so people get to know me outside of the dental office. Kids are excited when they recognize me as their dentist, and I love when I am out and about and a young patient comes up to say hi or hug me!

My staff and I provide school visits each February for Children’s Dental Health Month. We provide dental supplies to Girl and Boy Scout troops, and to patients traveling to third-world countries to aid orphanages and other less-fortunate members of those communities. I also attend neighborhood, hospital, and school health fairs.
