Dental Crown

A model of a single tooth which has been rounded to allow a dental crown to be place on it. You have probably heard of dental crowns and know that they are used as a way to protect and strengthen teeth. But did you know that sometimes a dental crown is the only thing that can save a tooth from further damage or even help a tooth to heal? Dental crowns are a versatile treatment that can be used in various circumstances. They can protect teeth from further decay, strengthen weaker teeth, and even help teeth to heal when they are injured. If you think you are a suitable candidate for dental crowns, we welcome you to our dental clinic, Stonewall Dental Associates, to have them installed professionally. Our care providers will also offer you other solutions and see which one is suitable for your teeth if dental crowns do not work.

Why Should I Get a Dental Crown?

There are many reasons why you should consider getting dental crowns for your teeth. They are restorative dental devices that can greatly help improve the appearance of your smile as they correct all of your teeth imperfections. If your teeth happen to be discolored or cracked, getting dental crowns is not an option. The best part about crowns is that they are made to match the color and look of your other teeth. No one will even notice you are using dental crowns.

Another reason why crowns may be suitable for your teeth is that they are strong and durable, since they are made from porcelain material. This means that you can chew and bite any food you want. They also do not stain that easily as long as you take care of them. Because crowns are strong, they help protect weak teeth from being eaten away by oral bacteria and from shifting and turning.

Dental Crown Procedure

Whether we install dental crowns for restorative or cosmetic purposes, the procedure is still the same. The dentist usually begins by shaping your tooth to allow the dental crown to fit well. Before that, we will check if you have any tooth issues before installing your crown. This is to ensure we do not cover bacteria present in your tooth. Once we are satisfied that your teeth are safe and free from bacteria, we will give you a temporary crown to use as you wait for the permanent one to be ready. The temporary crown is meant to protect your teeth from sensitivity and other issues for the few days you will be at home. On your final visit, the dentist will remove the temporary crown and give you a permanent one. It will be nicely fitted on your tooth, and adjustments will be made as needed. The material of the crown usually depends on your preference and sometimes the location of your tooth. Porcelain crowns are normally fitted on molar teeth as they can endure or withstand a lot of pressure.
